The AHP series in-line air heaters are used to heat clean, dry air or gas for baking, drying, laminating, metal working, packaging, plastic welding, preheating, sealing, soldering, shrink fitting and synthetic fabric sewing. AHP series air process heaters provide hot air and gas up to 1000°F (540°C) with infinite control by varying the voltage and/or the air flow. Closed loop control can also be achieved with temperature controllers (section P) and 'T' fittings to mount thermocouples.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High Efficiency and great design I've bought several of these because for heating any type of non-reactive gas there really is no substitute or better product available. These have convenient NPT threads on each end (which can be complicated if you want to go to high temperatures which would melt PTFE tape) and are relatively open to allow high flow rate gas streams to pass through. Highly recommended. One tip, don't heat them when there is no flow through them. They tend to burn out easily if you aren't providing cooling power.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple to use and install I purchased one of these for a project a month ago. It was for a piece of test equipment that will require at least three units in parallel. This first unit worked exactly as I expected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as advertised Bought this line heater to heat nitrogen when purging refrigerant systems on aircraft. At 200w I had to use a snubber to slow the flow, but it heats sufficiently for what it is

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as expected Works reliably for our process with good heat output

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well-made heating tube Really nice air heater tube that is very adjustable via voltage input. Very well made. Will use this at lower voltage to heat air going into a microscope environmental chamber. Not what they made it for, but because adjusting voltage works so well, it works fine for me for this purpose.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well made but needs a pressure drop spec. Well made heater unit per specs. It would help to add at least one data point at ambient temperature for the pressure drop thru the heater at X SCFM. Everyone knows the dP will go up when the heat is turned on so you do not need to cover this unless you want to. As my application was compressed air and I was using a few in parallel it was not a problem. The linlet max temperature told me I had to run these in parallel to get high a temperature exhaust and that worked out fine.

How to install Inline heater with Temperature controller?

Asked by: vicky77
Thanks for your question. The AHP-3741 is an in-line air heater with a resistive heating element - powered by 120 vac, and puts out 200 watts of power. A separate controller or thermostat is needed to maintain a constant temperature output. We offer a panel mount controller with built-in relay that can be set at a specific setpoint - part number CNi833. Along with a thermocouple for feedback, this controller can be used to limit the output temperature from the AHP series heater. Our Tech Support engineer has emailed you reference doc with more information on the controller.

We plan to use the model AHP-7562 with 208Vac, instead of 240Vac. Would it work correctly? I estimated the output power, the wattage, at 208V to be 560 W, and the current 2.7 A. Is that correct? Do you have technical information with voltage 208V?

Asked by: EHSG
The AHP-7562 can be powered with 208 VAC with a reduced Heat Wattage output. In this case the 560 Watts is what would be expected but Omega does not have any data using the Heater at lower Voltages.

What is the resistance element made of? Is it exposed to the gas flow?

Asked by: extra123
Thank you for your inquiry. The Exposed Resistance Element is (80%Nickel vs. 20%Chromium).

What is the minimum mass flow rate through the heater when inlet is methane at roughly room temperature? Your table gives values for the minimum SCFM but that is for maximum wattage per linear inch. I am dealing with ~ 0.1 to 0.2 L/min volume flow rates.

Asked by: extra123
Hi extra123, Thank you for the inquiry. Please forward this question to TEMP@OMEGA.COM. Best regards OMEGA

How to install the in-line heater and what temperature controller do I need (120v).

Asked by: Tech Ben
Thank you for your inquiry Tech Ben. This heater needs to be install with a temperature sensor to monitor temperature and as you indicated a temperature controller. If you are going to use the AHP-7562 (120 V and 190 W) which has a current rating of 1.58 A, you need a controller with a mechanical relay rated higher than 1.58 A. We recommend that you review our CNPT platinum series controller, here is the link: https://www.omega.com/en-us/control-monitoring/controllers/pid-controllers/p/CNPT-Series. If you have any other questions in term of setting up this system, please call 1-800-622-2378, ask for Temperature Engineering and speak to one of our temperature engineers over the phone.

Hello, to control this unit (AHP-7562), do I need an AC voltage modulator or will a normal relay style controller work for control? Basically turning the 120V power on and off as needed??? Please let me know. Thank you.

Asked by: JLSInvestigation
Thank you for your inquiry! You may use a controller in ON/OFF mode for this application, and most likely an external SSR or high current-rated mechanical relay. Most controller's internal relays cannot handle the high current pulled by heaters. Please see our PID controllers here: https://www.omega.com/en-us/control-monitoring/controllers/c/pid-controllers
