Many operating rooms require a positive pressure inside of the room. Positive pressure rooms are now a staple in nearly every hospital around the world. There are many challenges that come with keeping a room under constant positive pressure. Pressure transducers are key to ensuring patient safety and a sterile operating room with minimal risk of infection.
The air will flow out of the room, which will minimize the risk of bacteria and viruses from entering the room.
A differential pressure transducer will measure the pressure of the room and ensure that it stays positive. If the room does drop out of the positive pressure range, the proper actions can be taken to restore the positive pressure. There are many other rooms in a hospital that require positive pressure as well.
A very practical use of pressure transducers is identifying leaks in containers, storage tanks, radiators, and more. Engineers can easily use a differential or gauge-type pressure transducer to make leak testing a breeze. After pressurizing the system and closing off any valves, the pressure transducer will easily be able to detect if there are any leaks in the system. This is a fast and efficient method to determine if the system has any leaks and can be put into service.
Pressure transducers can be used to help safely monitor an air compressor. There are a few challenges though. Air compressors are prone to high levels of vibration, which means that a pressure transducer will have difficulty staying attached to properly measure the air pressure.
Compressed air can be fatal, because in certain conditions it can actually explode. A pressure transducer can be used to identify a dangerous pressure value. When the pressure reaches that value, the pressure transducer can send a signal to the controller to take appropriate action. A pressure relief valve can release the built up pressure.
