The current values above are based on actual tests of single strands of oxidized wire mounted in quiet air and operated at 1200°F. The tables are calculated for wire having a resistivity at 1200°F and a total surface watts-density of 28 W per square inch.

Rated 1 out of 5 by shellback from confusing chart I ordered and received heater ribbon for my radiant heater but the charts from which I tried to determine the proper thickness of ribbon was confusing for an electrical layman such as myself. Therefore, I purchased ribbon that did not allow my heater to heat to its full power, barely warming a few inches in front of it.

What is the thermal density of this wire? It states 28W/in^2 but this is a unit for thermal flux not density. Can you please clarify weather this is suppose to be a thermal density or a thermal flux?

Thank you for connecting with Omega. The NCRR series ribbon wire has a Watt Density of 28 watts per square inch.

Is there a coating or an insulation on the surface? Can this be used to heat up a metallic surface without shortcircuit risk?

Hi Fredj, Thank you for the inquiry. These do not have insulating coating. So they cannot be used on an electrically conductive surface. please can you tell me how much current and temperature it can withstand?
